Learning Through Kindness

Yesterday was World Kindness Day! A day dedicated to promoting good deeds and kind actions.

What a great day to focus on everyday learning moments with your child! As you practice kindness in your daily routine, be sure to talk to your child about what you’re doing and why you’re doing it. This kind of interaction, as well as playing, singing, and reading, creates fun learning moments that deepen your bond with your child and help prepare them for success in school. This is especially important for your child as they become more independent and have to become aware of their teachers, classmates, and announcements during the school day.

Here are ten ways that you can show kindness to others, without spending a dime.

1. Smile at people you pass on the street. A simple smile can make someone's day.

2. Hold the door open for people, especially if they have their hands full.

3. Offer to help carry someone's groceries to their car.

4. Take your neighbor's dog for a walk while they are out of town.

5. Bring in your coworker's favorite coffee or breakfast sandwich.

6. Pay for the person behind you in line at the coffee shop.

7. Send a hand-written thank-you note to someone who has done something nice for you recently.

8. Leave a kind note on your neighbor's car windshield.

9. Help an elderly person with their groceries or cross the street.

10. Volunteer at a local soup kitchen or homeless shelter.

There are endless ways to show kindness, and today is the perfect day to start! Showing kindness doesn't have to cost anything, and even the smallest act can make someone's day brighter and become a learning moment for your child. So go out there and spread some kindness today!
