Important Milestones at Two Months
How well do you know your child? Knowing how your child plays, learns, speaks, and acts offers important clues about your child’s development.
As your child grows, it’s important to keep track of their developmental milestones. Developmental milestones are things most children–75% or more–can do by a certain age. Opening their hands, smiling at you, and other actions are important milestones for you to keep track of. In today’s blog, we’re talking about milestones for your baby by two months.
Remember, you know your child best. If you’re concerned about their developmental progress, isn’t meeting one or more milestones, or has lost skills they had before, don’t wait. Talk with your child’s doctor about your concerns and ask about developmental screening.
At two months, most babies are hitting these milestones:
SOCIAL/EMOTIONAL MILESTONES
Calms down when spoken to or picked up
Looks at your face
Seems happy to see you when you walk up to her
Smiles when you talk to or smile at her
LANGUAGE/COMMUNICATION MILESTONES
Makes sounds other than crying
Reacts to loud sounds
COGNITIVE MILESTONES (LEARNING, THINKING, PROBLEM-SOLVING)
Watches you as you move
Looks at a toy for several seconds
MOVEMENT/PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT MILESTONES
Holds head up when on tummy
Moves both arms and both legs
Opens hands briefly
